Workshop leader: Julien Claassen
This workshop is intended for pupils as well as students. It demonstrates the multi operating system math software Octave.
Octave is a high-level interactive language for numerical computations. It is Matlab compatible and runs on the three major system platforms Linux/Unix, Mac OS and Windows.
The aim of this workshop is to give the attendees a basic understanding of Octave. How to approach some problems and how to formulate them, so the software can solve them. People will be shown how to obtain more documentation for mathematical topics, which aren't touched in this workshop.
The session is focused on solving problems of basic differential and integral maths, statistics is not touched. For this subject please consult the material for the R workshop of the Summer University 2010 or after the Octave workshop consult Octave's documentation, which is very straightforward, well organised and detailed.
